What is Kata
Kata comes the Japanese word describing a precise set of choreographed movements set out in a an exact manner that can be practised either solo or in pairs.
There is also the term form which means the same but is used for other martial arts in general.
Kata isnt just exclusive to martial arts.
There are many traditional Japanese procedures which take the style of Kata. Japanesse theater and schools of tea ceremony are both also know for the presence of Kata.
When speaking of martial arts. Kata is used to enhance ones skill level and teach formal style and techniques and can be more commonly found in the traditional Japanese and Okinawan martial arts, such as’
There are some martial arts such as t’ai chi ch’uan and taekwondo that feature the same types of training and techniques, but these tend to use the respective Chinese and Koreanwords taolu and hyeong, respectively.
So what is Kata.?
Martial arts Kata is a precise set of movements that are performed with accuracy, displaying actual moves and techniques relevant to the style of that particular martial art.
Displaying balance and grace of movement throughout the kata, all techniques should be accurate and precisely engineered to show the techniques at their most efficient.
The speed of the Kata should be constant only changing when the movement dictates so.
When done correctly Kata is a stunning performance showing technical grace of movement ability.
